Reflect God’s Image
In this Sunday Mass Homily at Saint Michael Kalibo, +Bp. Romie-Jun Peñalosa reminded us to reflect God’s image in our daily lives.
Today’s Gospel tells how the Pharisees and Herodians tried to trap Jesus by asking whether they should pay taxes to Caesar. However, Jesus turned their question into a lesson about our identity and responsibilities. While the coin bore Caesar’s image, we bear the image of God.
As people of faith, we must fulfill our civic responsibilities, guided by God’s love and truth. However, when human laws contradict God’s commandments, we must exercise discernment and remain faithful to Him. Our civic duties must never overshadow our identity as God’s children.
This Gospel challenges us to ask: If we truly belong to God, are we giving Him what rightfully belongs to Him? Do we give the same attention to our responsibilities toward God as we do to our other duties?
Since we bear God’s image, let us reflect His love through our daily actions. By obeying His commandments, loving one another, and choosing to forgive, we show others who God is.
Ultimately, reflecting God’s image means living out His love and goodness every day. Let us honor our responsibilities while remaining faithful to God, allowing His image to shine through everything we do.
