December 27, 2020, 1st Sunday of Christmas Theme: “Living in Christ: Heirs of God” Homily by Fr. Erel Villanueva Old Testament Proclamation: Isaiah 61:10 – 62:3 Responsorial Psalm : Psalm 148 New Testament Proclamation: Galatians 4:4-7 Gospel Proclamation: Luke 2:22-32

We will tackle the influence of His Family to Jesus and how they helped in fulfilling His calling and purpose.

Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple to be circumcised after 8 days, and they went to the temple after 40 days of purification to dedicate the Lord Jesus to God as their sign of obedience to traditions.

This symbolizes that the child is of God, and they acknowledge that their first born will live all the days of his life in serving God— that they are Christ-owned forever.

That’s how our children will grow in the ways of the Lord. That’s what the parents should do: To obey God in the best of our abilities, and through our example we also introduce to our children the ways of God.

Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple for the child to see and follow their example in Godly things.

Just like Mary and Joseph, may it be that we also help our children fulfill their calling. It starts from us parents, and above all we should see to it that we have a personal relationship with God because the light of our devotion in serving God is what we will be passing on to our children, and to the next generations to come.
