We are Called to be Saints
In this Sunday Mass Homily at Saint Michael Kalibo, +Bp. Romie-Jun Peñalosa reminded us that we are called to be saints.
Every Christian shares the calling to holiness as a follower of Jesus. God calls us to become saints so that we may live with Him forever. But how do we become saints? Through God’s grace, we grow in holiness and reflect it in our daily lives. As today’s Gospel reminds us, Jesus shows us the way through the Beatitudes.
In this world, we often strive to become rich, powerful, and popular in the hope of finding happiness and satisfaction. However, the Beatitudes teach us a different path. Jesus calls us to embrace humility, pursue righteousness, show mercy, and remain faithful to God. These are the qualities that lead us toward true blessedness and holiness. Moreover, we must remain faithful even when following Christ becomes difficult.
We can pursue holiness wherever God places us—in our schools, workplaces, and parishes. He calls us to reflect His holiness every day. Furthermore, we do not have to walk this journey alone. God calls us to help one another grow in faith and lead each other closer to Jesus.
Let us take time to examine our lives. Are we merciful? Have we become more humble, forgiving, and faithful? May the saints in heaven inspire us as we journey toward our heavenly home.
Indeed, we are called to be saints. Let us embrace God’s calling and strive to reflect His holiness in everything we do.
