Homily by Abp. Ricardo Alcaraz

“We are to ascend to God, that we might descend with God.”

Genesis 12:1-4a

2 Timothy 1:8b-10

Psalm 33:4-5;18-22

Matthew 17:1-9

“Spend more time with God.”

“Ascend to His Presence and descend with His Presence.”

“Change our values for God’s values”

1. (v.1-3) Let us go up to the presence of the Lord.

2. (v.4-5) We are transformed as we focus on the Lord (as we encounter Christ).

3. (v.6-9) We’re to bring His Presence and Power as we go to the world.

Psalm 73:28 – But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, That I may declare all Your works.

Psalm 139:17-18 – How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.

John 17:3 – And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

Hebrews 10:19-23 – Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

2 Corinthians 3:18 – But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
